Take Me Down by Michael Mills
Take Me Down tells the story of a young woman named Audrey and her return home to a small town in Appalachia for the funeral of her grandfather. The morning of her grandfather’s wake, Audrey meets with her childhood best friend Savannah, and is shocked to learn of the approval to construct a contentious natural gas pipeline in her town and the tensions boiling over in the community. Savannah then tells Audrey of a tree sit protest she’s organizing and invites her to join. Fearful of causing a rift within her family and the personal risks associated with such a protest, Audrey refuses. However, despite her efforts to remain neutral, Audrey finds herself in the midst of an intense argument which sees her family members pitted against one another at her grandfather’s wake. While her family reconciles, Audrey then contemplates whether remaining neutral is truly possible and whether she has the strength to take the action she feels is right.
