Who we are

We are an organization made up of music and theatre artists - including composers, vocalists, instrumentalists, and storytellers - with an expansive definition of “opera” not limited by genre, style, or technology.

TellTale Opera Theatre is committed to presenting works of musical storytelling that both work within and develop upon popular notions of what opera can be. Our artist-lead initiatives aim to platform visionary new voices, presenting stories and characters that reflect American audiences today. Based in Baltimore, TellTale hopes to work closely with our community partners and local talent in order to showcase the city’s rich cultural capital. We create theatre from an ethos of scrappiness. That is to say, our small storefront operating budget goes mainly to paying artists and musicians. We manage to build worlds on stage through a combination of community support, DIY mentality, and artistic force of will.
