Family Ties

May 2nd, 7pm - 2640 St. Paul St. - Baltimore, MD

Join us for the premiere of two new operas focusing on family dynamics - coping with the death of a parent, learning to stand up for what you believe in, and understanding how to come home when both you and your family have changed.

More about the operas:

In Rabbit Season - composed by Meg Huskin with libretto by Sarah Perret-Goluboff - three adult sisters who return home for the first Easter Sunday with their father after their mother’s death. Though at first in sync, each sister’s grief manifests through opposing goals. After a shocking discovery, will this family be able to overcome their grief and move forward?

In Take Me Down - with music and libretto by Michael Mills - a young woman named Audrey returns home to a small town in Appalachia for her grandfather’s funeral. After learning about the construction of a contentious natural gas pipeline, she finds herself in the midst of intense arguments which sees her family members pitted against each other. Can Audrey have the strength to take the action she feels is right?

This performance is supported in part by grants from the Maryland State Arts Council, and the Pattis Family Foundation Emerging Artists Fund at Brevard Music Center
